The House of Godwin is a Britannian noble house, a cadet branch of the House of Wessex founded Godwin of Wessex in the 11th century. The first King of the Anglish from the House of Godwin was Harold II the Stalwart, who repelled three different invasions of Britannia over the course of just over a year following his coronation in January 1066, defeating the Vikings of Harald Hardrada, the Normans of William the Bastard, and the Danes of Sweyn II. This began a dynasty lasting for more than three hundred years, culminating in a civil war which saw the near-extermination of the Anglish Godwins, though they were and still are survived by a branch of the family which became rooted in Hibernia. Traditionally, members of the House of Godwin are given the surname Godwinson until they take regnal names. The Godwinsons remain one of the most powerful families in the Britannian Empire to this day.
